Canada Learning Code is a national organization that runs beginner-friendly computer programming workshops across Canada. In 2013, Bree Emmerson launched the Edmonton Chapter of Canada Learning Code (originally Ladies Learning Code), and continues to manage and organize the local chapter’s adult programming. In 2017, Bree was joined by Leah Elzinga who is the acting youth chapter programming lead.

Our Ladies Learning Code workshops offer female-identified and male-identified, trans, and non-binary adults hands-on, project-based learning experiences that are designed to give beginners the skills and confidence they need to become digital creators.
Our Teens Learning Code workshops and events offer female-identified, trans, and non-binary youth ages 13-17 opportunities to take action on ideas that will shape our future while leveraging the power of technology. Our learning experiences are much more than learning how to code. Our experiences empower teens to learn problem solving skills, how to turn ideas into reality, exposure to what a future in technology could look like, and much more.
Our Kids Learning Code workshops and events for kids ages 9-12 are designed to give learning experiences that are fun, engaging, empowering and inspirational. Through hands-on, collaborative, project-based learning, kids end the workshop having built something. This workshop experience is designed to help kids see technology in a whole new light – as a medium for self-expression, and as a means for changing the world.
